Happy New Year!
Welcome back. I hope everyone had a lovely holiday! This term I will try to push the kid's reading up a notch or a few notches. You should begin to see progress this term. Please continue to read each day at home on Razz or whatever books you have. Reading a lot at their individual level will help your child to progress. Ask them to retell the story to you (or story events, if there isn't much of a story line.
We will also continue to write daily and you should see progress in this area as well. You can help at home by having your child help you to write a grocery list or they could keep a journal of things they do each day, or write a note to a brother or sister. At this point in the year, letter formation should be correct and if reversals are being done, then they should always have the alphabet in front of them. Inventive spelling (phonetic spelling is good and is how they learn). It is a process.
The snap words for the week are - make, keep, eat, very, girl
The spelling words for the week are - hit, big, win, fill, this, did. (short vowel 'i'). We are working on vowels now and their sounds.
In math we will finish up linear measurement with non standard units this week and move to 2D geometry while continuing with adding and subtracting.
We are looking at texture in art.
Next week we will begin materials, objects and structures in Science.
In Social Studies we look at People and Environments: The Local Community.
Enjoy your week!
