Dear Parents,

Hello. This week's spelling work was a review of weeks 6-12. We will begin with lesson 13 the first week of January. I will start giving the kids spelling tests on the Friday of each week beginning January 12th. It will be Thursday if a short week.

The snap words are - get, will did, saw, here

We have been working on procedure and seasonal writing. In math we finish up making and extending patterns with changing attributes. We will move on to non standard measurement and 2D geometrical shapes.

The holiday concert is Wednesday December 13th. The kids will come to the classroom and be taken down to perform by me. Thanks

FYI we will be making holiday slime this afternoon as we explore the five senses. They will bring it home in a baggy. Just an FYI.

Tuesday morning the kids will make holiday crafts with the help of some wonderful parent volunteers. Thanks!

Hello,
It was really great to meet with families last week to discuss the children's progress.  I had a couple of questions about the 5 snap words that the kids get each week. They started out getting a paper bracelet, however it didn't take long for some to take it off and loose it and not make it home. The expectation in class is that they spell them correctly in their writing and read them in a snap. I will send home the first 50 words. We are doing 40-45 this week and 45- 50 next week. Thanks for your help! The spelling words can be found on Spelling City.

In Math we continue to work on composing and decomposing numbers, simple addition and subtraction (soon) and we composing and labeling simple patterns. In December we look at non standard measurement.

In science we will begin to look at living things; plants and animals (including people)
their basic needs, how they behave and experience the world through their five senses.

Writing is done on a daily basis, journal writing, story writing, author study and seasonal writing through December. We will cover procedural writing and writing about personal connections to reading.

They continue to read daily their leveled books and others of interest and are learning word attack strategies to use while reading independently. A reminder that reading is about thinking about what is read and not just being able to sound out a word. Comprehension is at the core.

Have a great week!

Hello,
Thanks for all the treats brought in on Halloween. The kids had a fun day, starting with the parade and then the Halloween dance and then games and treats in the classroom.

I hope all families are taking advantage of Spelling City  Please go to:

https://www.spellingcity.com/users/mrsolsonsgradeones to the weekly word lists to play games.

I have also started using See Saw to send you pictures of the kids at work in the classroom. So far, only 12 families have signed up. Hopefully we get all families signed up so you can see your kids in the classroom.

Please have your child bring in a pair of shoes to leave at school. Boots are not allowed in the classrooms. Thanks

Have a great week!

Parent interviews online booking begins next week. Please sign up for your interview. I look forward to meeting with all parents.
